May 27, 2018 · The impedance is required to be kept within a narrow range, as higher frequency signals can face interference in the event of use of a wrongly selected coaxial cable. Two commonly used coaxial cable types, based on the impedance are of 50 ohm and 75 ohm types. The PL-259 coax connection is the most popular in the CB world. It has a barrel / screw-on type look, as can be seen in the picture below. All CB coax will have a PL-259 connection on at least one end, as this is the standard type of connection that plugs into the back of all CB radios. May 27, 2018 · The impedance is required to be kept within a narrow range, as higher frequency signals can face interference in the event of use of a wrongly selected coaxial cable. Two commonly used coaxial cable types, based on the impedance are of 50 ohm and 75 ohm types. I need to check a 2m transceiver (Yaesu FT-230R) that's not been used for nearly 20 years. I have a Slim Jim antenna and know this needs 50 ohm coax but I don't have any. All I want to do is check whether the rig is working; if it is, I'll fix up the Slim Jim properly and feed it with 50 ohm. The only coax that I have is 75 ohm. Hey, Which Coaxial Cable Should I Use? Coaxial cables are the most popular form of transmission line for getting our signals to and from our antennas. There are many types of cable to choose from and it can be confusing to chose the best one. Mar 06, 2014 ·  A good rule of thumb is that if the device being connected via coaxial cable is a receiver of some kind,  75 Ohm Coax  is ideal.  This includes devices such as Satellite and Cable TV Receiver Boxes, High Definition Televisions, AM/FM Radio Receivers and Police Scanners. Jan 28, 2015 · They also have an impedance of 75 ohms, which is a standard for coax cable used in the broadcast industry. You can use these cables with a 50 Ohm amateur radio antenna system, but because of the impedance mismatch, your SWR will be a little higher. For example, if everything else is balanced out, using the 75 ohm cable with a 50 Ohm antenna will increase your SWR to 1.5:1 at the transmitter. Typical ham radio equipment is designed for 50 ohm load impedance, so we hams use 50 ohm cables and build or buy antennas that are specified for 50 ohm. While most cable has a flat impedance over frequency (they measure 50 ohm at all frequencies you are likely to use), the same is not true of the antennas. A 1.0:1 VSWR is a perfect match. Don't use RG-8U, RG-58, RG-59, RG-213, or even inexpensive 75 ohm TV cable as they will perform poorly. As you can see from the table below, at the higher frequencies cable losses can be significant so use quality low-loss cables ... Yes, All My Coax Cables Are 75 Ohms (and everything works OK!) C02KK exposes some myths about using 75-ohm feedline with 50-ohm rigs and shows us how to build a "cotangent transformer," a simple matching device to make it all work. By Arnie Coro, C02KK" : ow many times have you heard '-' that 50-ohm cable is a must? I Ecobee wiring diagram humidifierCoax cable has an impedance of 75 ohms, so you could use 75-ohm coax feed cable feeding a 75-ohm simple dipole aerial. Unfortunately, the simple dipole is balanced and the coax is unbalanced. Connecting the two causes losses which can be avoided by using a "balun" (balanced to unbalanced transformer). While there are many coax cables that are 1/2 inch in outside diameter, the true size of the cables that interface directly to PL-259 plugs is 0.405 inches. These instructions will not cover the use of reducers required for adapting the PL-259 to be used with coax such as RG-8X, RG-58 or RG-59. The Process: The Channel Master CM 94444 outdoor matching transformer Balun is used to connect your 75 ohm coaxial cable to the common 300 twin lead style connection on many outdoor antennas. The CM 94444 is an industry standard balun. It offers excellent matching and lowest through loss. Connects 300 ohm antennas to 75 ohm downloads. So that's why the calculator always spits back the same amount you typed in, because under these conditions the coax length should be just long enough to reach the rig. The length of coax to used to "repeat" the SWR of a non-resonant antenna (other than 50 ohm match to your system) at the other end would be 1/2 wave multiple length coax. Now the antenna current can flow from one side of the antenna to the other, without having to involve the coax shield. Unfortunately, removing the necessity of having the coax be part of the antenna doesn’t automatically isolate it: a coax-fed dipole is often only slightly quieter than an end-fed longwire.
